How to tie a baby sling?

Our tutorial video: “How do I tie a baby wrap?” can be found on our YouTube channel. Since not everyone finds the white text in the speech bubbles easy to read, the text is shown below on the right of the video (on mobile the text is below the video). Scroll through the text, while the video remains visible. Good luck. Do you have any questions? Contact us and we will help you.

Take the sling roughly in the middle and hold the cloth at the height of your waist (or slightly higher). Gather the sling a little and then move the cloth to the back.

__

Cross the sling on the back. By only holding the “top” of the sling, you prevent the sling from turning on the back. After crossing the cloth, bring the cloth forward over your shoulder.

__

Take the 2 ends of the sling together and pass it between the belly band and the body.

__

Cross the 2 straps again and bring them to the back (here you can apply the knot if necessary).

__

Cross the ends of the sling on the back again and bring the sling back to the front. Keep them on top of your hip bones. Knot the ends with a double knot.

__

Take a look at the bands from your shoulder down. If you have the band of your left shoulder at the bottom, first place your child high against your right shoulder. Move your hand around the outside under the bottom band and guide your child’s foot under the band.

__

Then bring your child to the other shoulder and guide the other foot under the other band. Lower your child to the center of the crotch. Make sure both shoulders are covered by the bands.

__

If your left band is at the bottom, hold your child with your right hand and spread the cloth first with your left hand (over your right hand) from knee to knee.

__

Hold your child subsequently with your left hand and take your right hand from under the cloth. Spread the other band over your right hand from knee to the other knee.

__

Then spread the belly band over the feet and spread the belly band well over the back of your child into the neck.

__

Tip 1: Cross on the back
Make sure you do not hold the entire width of the cloth, but leave a piece ‘hanging’. Grab one side of the cloth between your fingers, exposing the thumb. You can now grab the other side of the cloth with your thumb. With your free hand you go under the cloth (which is held by the thumb) and take the end that is between the fingers. Now you have both ends in the other hand and you have prevented twisting of the cloth.

__

Tip 2 Towel method
Grab your belly band at the top with your left hand. With your right hand, grab the band that goes over the right shoulder on the inside (the side closest to your neck). Then move the cloth back and forth over your back, as if you were drying yourself with a towel. If the cloth is turned, you will notice it immediately.

__

Tip 3 Extra support
For extra support in the neck of your child you can wrap a burp cloth into the top of your belly band.

Finally:

• Tie the sling rather too tight than too loose. You are responsible for properly tying your sling;
• Always use a double knot;
• Do not wear the sling while sporting;
• Bend down, make sure you support your baby;
• Be aware of the extra layer of warmth that the wrap provides, so do not dress your baby accordingly;
• To remove your baby from the sling, you do not have to repeat all steps in reverse order. You unfold the bands and then lift your baby out.
